The Dante Quartet play Dante's Divine Comedy on 6 June. The piece was specially written for the Quartet by a Russian family of composers: husband, wife and daughter.
The devilish variations of Dmitry Smirnov's Inferno lead to the anguished wastes of Elena Firsova’s Purgatorio, and culminate in Alissa Firsova's voluptuous Paradiso.
The concert includes two other pieces: Janáček's Violin Sonata, played by the brilliant young pianist Alissa Firsova and Quartet violinist Krysia Osostowicz, and Dvořák's Piano Quintet, where Alissa and the Dante Quartet join forces to play this masterpiece of Romantic chamber music.
The concerts starts in the Chapel at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £16 (£12
restricted view; £5 student standby on the door only) and are available
from the The Shop
at King’s (01223 769340) and the Cambridge Corn Exchange Box Office (01223 357851).
50 free tickets are available on the door for 8-25 year olds. This is funded by Cavatina Chamber Music Trust, who encourage young people's interest and involvement in chamber music.
The Dante Quartet are the quartet in residence at King's, and this concert is parts of the Concerts at King's series.
